Provider Services
Provider services deliver direct support to residents of Gateshead.
This includes:
- Respite services;
- Technology Enabled Care (Care Call);
- Day Services;
- Promoting Independence Centres;
- Shared Lives;
- Rapid Response and Intermediate Care; and
- Employment and community support services.
PRIME is also a provider service but has a dedicated area of this site.

Blaydon Lodge provides short breaks for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism aged 18 or over and who may present behaviour that can be considered challenging.
The short break accommodation stays can be used for a weekend stay up to periods of two weeks depending on individuals assessed need, room availability and compatibility with other guests.
The enablement framework serves to provide a strengths-based model of care, building upon individual's resilience and fortitude through stimulating and innovative activities to increase the capabilities of service users. People are constantly supported to reach their full potential by exercising their skills and communicative ability, enabling them to lead safe and fulfilling lives whist remaining as independent as possible.
The service operates 24/7, 365 days per year.
Care Call provides support to over 8,500 vulnerable clients and connections across Gateshead. The service responds to alerts raised via a wide range of Technology Enable Care, giving support, advice and providing a mobile response service to clients. The service also provides a point of contact out of hours for all Council services dealing with queries and giving advice and information as required.

Disability Day Provision supports people who have a complex learning disability or autism, via a bespoke care package with an enablement and activity-based approach, to:
- Maintain and develop life skills;
- Increase their self-confidence and level of independence;
- Maintain their physical and mental wellbeing;
- Participate in activities of interest;
- Achieve their aspirations; and
- Have an active presence in their local community through citizenship, employment, enterprise and volunteering opportunities.
The day service provides high quality social care and support services for adults over the age of 18 years with complex learning disabilities and/or autism, enabling people to reach optimal levels of self-care skills and independence.
Marquisway Bungalow provides day opportunities using person centred care to support and enable service users to pursue activities based on their interests, hobbies and aspirations; embracing principals of citizenship.

The service operates 5 days per week between 08:30 and 16:00 hours.
The day service provides high quality social care and support services for adults over the age of 18 years with physical disabilities and mental health problems. The service operates 5 days per week between 08:30 and 16:00 hours.
It provides practical and emotional support and aims to promote social inclusion and independence; also providing support and activities in community settings.
The enablement framework serves to provide a strengths-based model of care, building upon individual's resilience and fortitude through stimulating and innovative activities to increase the capabilities of service users. People are constantly supported to reach their full potential by exercising their skills and communicative ability, enabling them to lead safe and fulfilling lives whist remaining as independent as possible.
Promoting Independence Centres are short stay assessment facilities which provide placements from 1 night to 6 weeks for adults aged 18+ who have undergone an assessment of need.
They provide an enabling environment which supports service users with a wide range of conditions including general frailty, dementia, mental health, physical disability, learning disability and sensory impairment, to work towards increasing their confidence, improving their physical and mental wellbeing and supporting them to achieve their individual goals.
Shared Lives is a service that matches adults with additional needs with an approved Shared Lives carer. The Shared Lives carer shares their home and community life, supporting the vulnerable adult to live their very highest quality of life. It gives them the opportunity to live in a family environment instead of staying in a residential facility or being looked after by support workers.
The Rapid Response Service is a multi-disciplinary team providing an urgent care response to crisis. The service operates 24/7 providing care and support for up to 7 days, for which there is no charge.
Aligned with therapy and nursing services the service will offer a response time within two hours of receiving a referral. The purpose of the service is to avoid unnecessary admissions to acute wards and facilitate timely discharges, reduce admissions to promoting independence centres and minimise care home admissions.
Conditions or problems the team can treat include:
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) - if urgent care is needed for a 'flare up';
- Chest infection;
- Breathing difficulties;
- Falls;
- Stomach pains;
- Animal bites;
- Diabetics with a low sugar episode;
- Urine infections;
- Diarrhoea and vomiting;
- Minor injuries e.g. sprains, strains, small wounds;
- Coughs/colds/sore throats.
Note: The rapid response service can only be accessed by residents of Gateshead with a Gateshead based GP.
Intermediate Care are a non-urgent community service which prevents hospital admissions and assists hospital discharges to anyone over the age of 16 registered with a Gateshead GP.
The team also provides out of hours district nursing care after 5pm - 8.30am and palliative care after 1am - 8.30am. The team administers intravenous antibiotics to patients with various medical conditions via cannula and central line.
GATES (Gateshead Access To Employment Service) is an outcome focused service, providing tailored support for individuals with disabilities (learning disabilities, autism, physical disability and mental health conditions) to gain paid employment. The service has a comprehensive supported employment process ensuring that once someone secures a job they are provided with the appropriate support to retain the job, providing them with income, pride from work and allowing them to demonstrate their skills and talents within the workplace.
Next Steps Enterprises are an outcome focused service that aims to support people who have learning disabilities and autism to develop purposeful roles within the community. Next Steps offers people the opportunity to develop work-based competencies, personal skills and interests through its initiatives based within the community. This includes access to enterprises, volunteering and community activities. The service is underpinned by person centred values leading to bespoke support tailored to the individual.
